At Expo Milan 2015, Bioma was responsible for the concept and production of the Brazilian Pavilion’s audiovisual experience. The project brought together narrative, technology, and innovation across dozens of immersive installations, including a nearly 60-meter video wall designed to present Brazil to more than 21 million visitors.
Expo Milan 2015
Expo Milan 2015 welcomed more than 21 million visitors and was the first World Expo dedicated to food, nutrition, and sustainability. Under the theme Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, the Brazilian Pavilion showcased the country's diversity, innovation, and agricultural leadership through a highly immersive visitor experience. Audiovisual storytelling was at the heart of that experience. Commissioned by ApexBrasil (the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), Bioma was responsible for the pavilion's audiovisual production, creating dozens of films, animations, interactive installations, original soundtracks, and multimedia experiences displayed throughout the exhibition. Beyond producing content, the team developed the project's narrative language and provided the technical expertise required to integrate every piece into the pavilion's complex exhibition technology.
A Film Measured in Meters
The project's greatest challenge was the creation of a nearly 60-meter-long video wall, powered by synchronized high-definition projectors displaying a single continuous image with a resolution of approximately 33,000 × 1,080 pixels. For the first time, the creative team had to think about storytelling not in minutes or shots, but in meters. Visitors could enter the installation at any point, walk in either direction, and stay for as long as they wished—yet still leave with a complete understanding of the message. To solve this challenge, Bioma developed a unique narrative architecture that organized the content into independent story units distributed across both space and time. Projection geometry, motion graphics, and carefully designed transitions guided visitors naturally through the experience, creating the illusion of an endless, organic audiovisual canvas with no obvious beginning or end. The entire creative and technical process was documented in a 140-page Production Bible, covering everything from narrative design and artistic direction to the engineering required for the installation in Milan.
Filming Across Brazil
To bring the pavilion's vision to life, Bioma traveled across every region of Brazil, completing 30 filming days and producing approximately 80% of all the footage displayed throughout the exhibition. The remaining content combined carefully curated archival material, studio productions, animation, and the post-production of dozens of audiovisual pieces designed specifically for the pavilion. The result was far more than a collection of videos. It was a unified audiovisual experience created to represent Brazil at one of the world's most important international events, seamlessly combining storytelling, technology, creative direction, and exhibition engineering into a single immersive installation.
